Exercise 10 - Use Sketchup to Design your own park, home or skate park

Due September 26
100 Points

Class,

We will now begin using Sketchup.

Sketchup is a 3D modeling program that can be used to create your own building, theme park, mechanical part or even dog house.  Yes...a dog house.

You will find Sketchup in your Applications.

Directions.

1.  Follow the step by step instructions on how to get familiar with the tool at the below link:

2.  Once you finish the step by step, you should be more familiar with the program to just start making shapes.  Start a new file and try to design your own park, home or skate park.  Incorporate shapes like squares, rectangles, cones and domes.

3.  The finished product will be graded on how you can manipulate shapes.

Save your file as period#_lastname_firstname_10x

Exercise 9 - Principles of Design & Graphic Design / Architect Intern salary seek & find

Class:
Due by end of class.

Directions:
1.  Read the "Principles of Design" and take the quiz.  You are welcome to help each other, use the internet for answers.

  • Think About:  You have already started to use some of the "principles".  When you designed a logo, when you were hand drawing and even in your portrait (your portrait probably followed a "rule of thirds").  You are on your way to being a designer!  Well, maybe or maybe not.  You cannot simply follow these "principles" and be guaranteed success but the terms and concepts seem to appear over and over in all sorts of creative fields.  You can start to "break the rules" after you start to develop basic skills.

The quiz is worth 50 points.

2.  Take the Salary "Quiz" found at the link below.  Use the internet and various sites to look up salary data for Graphic Designers both here in Tucson and Los Angeles.

Graphic Design Salary Quiz.

  • Think About:  Do you want a family with children, adequate medical insurance, a nice second home in the mountains, swimming pool, etc?  Are you ready for the management demands you will need to earn that sort of salary?  Are you content living more modestly and earning less?  Having more free time to enjoy with family may mean less salary but a better quality of life, or will it?  Would you rather work in a big city like Phoenix, Los Angeles or NYC and earn more/pay more to live?  Would you rather work in Pinetop/Lakeside, AZ and go fishing nearly every day after work (but make much less let alone even be fortunate to have a job at all!)

The survey is worth 50 points.
