Today I will demonstrate how to get started in Adobe Illustrator with the Monster exercise.


Steps:

1.  Open Adobe Illustrator and Start a new drawing.
2.  Follow the presentation to do the first 2 monsters with me.
3.  Draw the final 2 monsters on your own.

Extra Credit:
Make your own monster -- think about using the animal you drew by hand as a starting point.

Exercise 3 - Practice with the Pen Tool and Trace my Truck

Introduction

You will learn how to master the pen tool by following these instructions.  You will have to practice your reading skills but once you start to see how the pen works -- you should be able to just start clicking away!

Assignment

Exercise 2 : Land, Sea and Text

Introduction

CMT will try a different approach to Adobe Illustrator.  You will use simple shapes to create a landscape, an "ocean" and for extra credit you can try making the logo below.

The author finishes each drawing by taking it from Illustrator into Photoshop for texture.  You may do that for extra credit but it is not required.

Assignment

Watch the teacher demonstrate the beginning of each drawing. You can then continue on to finish each drawing.  You will learn: different shape tools, selection, copy/paste, color picker (eye dropper) tool, importing from the internet.

Save your drawings into a file called:

5 Logos, 2 Buildings(landscape), 1 Animal drawing - Due 8/14

Due End of Class, August 14

100 points.

You are to draw 5 logos, 2 buildings and 1 animal from images using Safari and the internet, or right around you.  You are to draw them as accurately as possible.  Next to the image, write down why you chose those logos, buildings and animal.

This is your chance to start practicing "thumbnail" drawings.  Take your time and really use the pencil or pen and make strong and bold lines.

Pay close attention to the logo and see how it might have been conceived.
